Cut backs on sick pay

My husband has come home today with revised holiday and sick pay details.
Previously if he was to have an accident out of work which stopped him from working for several weeks he would get sick pay but this has come to an end as I believe it may be doing with a lot of employers?
Our dilemma is that he plays rugby and if he was to injure hisself and needed to take time off work he wouldn't receive sick pay which would obviously leave us in a pickle.
Im not up on insurances and would be grateful for any advice so that he can look into taking out personal insurance to cover for such eventualities.

On moneysupermarket you can take out income protection insurance, not sure if it would cover sports injuries but check you could ask for a specific point to be added to cover this.Im sure you could take out something to cover for a sports injury.0

Do not mix up mortgage payment protection or these budget general insurance income protection plans with proper income protection policies (permanent health insurance- PHI).
PHI is the proper income protection he should be looking at.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

None of the blokes on the job are too happy as most play sports outside of work but seems there is not a lot they can do.

The club/league he plays for should have details of personal policies to cover him when playing rugby. They may even have an existing policy providing some level of cover.0
