An electric mirrored cabinet in the bathroom

I'm looking to get a demister mirrored cabinet (something like this) installed in my bathroom and I'm wondering what questions do I need to ask electricians I call out to get quotes from.

Currently, the wall looks like this, minus the cabinet in the photo i.e. there's a shaving socket already on the wall:

I've read bits about Part P regulation work, notifiable work and certification and that doesn't make much sense to me!

I intend to only get quotes from NICEIC accredited electricians and I think I need a certificate upon completion? What does notifiable work mean and would this be classed as such? If so, do I need to do anything or just ensure the electrician does something? If so, do I need to do anything or just ensure the electrician does something?

Have a look at the fitting instructions for a HIB cabinet... (we used HIB mirrors and a flush fit cabinet for our refurbished bathrooms)

    https://www.hib.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/02-019-Fitting-Instructions-171121.pdf

It says to fit in zone 2 and outside zone and installed by a qualified Part P electrician.

Our work was notifiable as it included underfloor heating, new lighting and dual fuel towel rads as well as the mirror/cabinets but I would expect that if it were to directly replace a shaver outlet (same location, no additional wiring) then possibly not. The HIB cabinets include shaver socket(s) so you probably wouldn!!!8217;t need to keep the existing socket. The electrics were only about £200 per bathroom but that didn!!!8217;t include laying the underfloor, just connecting it all up and testing/certification.

We have two electric toothbrushes plus a waterpik, so that's three items to plug in, which we are constantly juggling. So, I would keep the shaver outlet! :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

As the cabinet I'm looking at would ideally fit directly above the sink and the current socket is on the side, and I don't want to have to plaster the wall, I think I will keep it.

I know. :( However, most retailers are able to sell it for cheaper. I need to contact a few to get quotes. Given my bathroom is small I could do with a mirrored cabinet and there isn't a window so I could do with it being demisting. I'm surprised there aren't many more options.

This work would be notifiable because it is addition or alteration to existing circuits in a special location (a bathroom). The work needs to be notified to your local Building Control office. Electricians can join various schemes that allow them to notify the work to Building Control (BC) . This is preferable as if YOU notify the work directly, you will have to pay BC to come and inspect the work, which will cost extra.

As well as notifying BC, the electrician will also give you either an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC). A MEIWC is more appropriate to the work your are wanting done. EICs are used when new circuits are added or Consumer Units are changed.

Many sure that your contract with the Electrician makes is clear that you are expecting them to notify BC via their Part P Scheme (ask them which scheme they are a member of) and that you expect them to provide an MEICW or EIC.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.
