Find the squeak
Hi all,
My car has been squeaking for a couple of months and I’ve no idea where it’s coming from or what’s causing it.
Was hoping someone might have some ideas!
Seems to be coming from brakes due to the following :
Had my front pads replaced by a garage in Feb 18 and they were fine, no squeaking before the change either. About 2 weeks after the pads replaced it started squeaking. I took it back and he sorted it for another 2 weeks. Now it’s still happening.
When I took it back to him he said the back discs and pads need changing. So I did this myself for the first time to save money! The squeak is still there though
The squeak happens pretty much all the time while driving except when the tiniest bit of pressure is put on the brakes it instantly stops until pressure is released.
Could it be the front calipers?
The car is a 2.0l petrol Subaru Impreza if it matters
Thanks for any advice

Change the front pads for a different brand.
Clean the discs with brake cleaner and a scourer or 180 grit wet n dry paper to put a slightly rough surface for the pads to bed into
Make sure all the anti-rattle springs & shims are in place.
Smear an anti-squeal product on the back of the pads (the area that contacts the piston)- the plan is to stick the pads to the pistons.
If that doesn't work, new rubber seals in the callipers may help.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

I would guess the calipers need stripping down and cleaning, sounds like the pads aren't retracting as they should.0
