Back paying lost NI years?

It sounds too good to be true...I was self employed for quite a few years but took the NI exemption as I didn't earn much. I'm sure the cost was a lot higher than what you quoted, or maybe my brain is not remembering correctly?

If anyone has done this it would be interesting to know?

Does it have to be this month? I thought you could register as self employed retrospectively (up to October for a tax year ending in April of the same year)

Yes, I am doing something similar. While it sounds (and is) a little complicated, the rewards make it worthwhile.

The advice on this thread is good, but you can always call the number given on the Gateway page that you checked. They are helpful, and if necessary will arrange for a specialist to call you back.

I am trying to pay class 2 for last year, but as a landlord I may not qualify.
However this year I did a training course on GDPR and some consultancy about it for which I plan to charge a few hundred. So it looks like I should qualify for this year. I only need one year to reach the maximum.

Nonscence if you have not investigated Class 2 contribution rules just but out!

The suggestion was to actually do some work. Not much but keeping records to prove it.

Sorry but doing a one-off job for £100 does not make you self-employed for a full year and would not be entitled to pay Class 2 for 52 weeks.

No different to tax credit cheats claiming to be self-employed.
