Replacing chipset fan on ASUS A8N-E Motherboard

Hi guys,

Wondering if someone could advise me as fan on my mother board is playing up on start up i sometimes get a message "Chipset fan fail or running too slow"

It looks like this fan

Opened box up and tried cleaning it but no luck and think it is going to pack in soon. At the moment making loads of noise.

Not sure of the exact model of my asus motherboard but based on the order form from the company i got to build it was listed as follows -ASUS A8N-E: DUAL DDR, S-ATA, x16 slot, 3 PCI etc

Computer is two years old so not bothered about upgrading as computer manages what i need comfortably.

Any links to any replacements and advice on changing it? If possible if i could pick it up from maplin?

Cheers

  • Hello,

    Refer this link, http://support.asus.com/repair/repair.aspx?no=201&SLanguage=en-us

Your MB has a 3 year warranty (should do), however don't think you want to go down this route, probably more hassle and frustration than you need.

Probably quicker writing to ASUS uk, and just ask very nicely for a new fan. If you read or do a google search on ASUS and fan, it would appear that this is a well known problem, e.g noisy or dead chipset fan.

If you do get the new fan you have to remove the MB completely from PC in order to release existing fan from underneath, so, be aware.

I thought these fans weren't to expensive so rather than waiting for one to be sent out which may take weeks writing etc, you know where i can pick one up?

Happy to fit it as comfortable opening the computer up
  • I have the similar ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard and the original and replacement chipset fans both failed. Log the problem with Asus support and they will eventually send you a free (possibly redesigned) fan, however I got fed up of waiting for them and opted to fit a Zalman passive cooler instead. It works perfectly and is silent. I followed the fitting guide at http://www.euroalps.eu/technology/Computing/Chipset_Cooling/chipset_cooling.html
