Will temp agencies take people on and send them to their clients if they don't have the relevant experience?
:rotfl: I don't know about now, but in my youth I swear one agency kept their switchboard (plug-in, no less!) working by showing potential temps how to work it and seeing how they got on!
for an entry level phone answering job? yup.
And I think they still will.

OP, what field of work are you in atm? I mean, you've already had lots of examples of where receptionists do still work, but in a lot of places (like mine) the 'reception' function is just something everyone does a bit of. There are some fields of work where a training course might cover some specialist knowledge - like the particular IT systems used in schools or GP surgeries or dental surgeries or hospitals or even Vets, I guess - but anywhere else, that's less likely.

An apprenticeship might well be worth looking for.

I do cleaning at the minute. But i`ve got experience in retail, customer service, hospitality, kitchen etc. I have seen jobs where you do a little bit of everything, apprenticeship receptionist/FOH all sorts so it`s not like i`m resorting to one particular job.

However, my change in circumstances are changing at the minute. The company I am with are being taken over by the school come September and by the sounds of it, it`s going to be a unpleasant place to work. Teachers were telling us today to get out whilst we can, it`s not worth working here etc. 71 teachers have left in 2 years  due to the headteachers new scheme/plan/way of working. Because I`m in a contract with another company, the school can`t sack us or anything. But when they become our bosses they can do whatever they please and will get people out to get better people in and so forth. So at the moment, my plans are on hold. I`ve got about 5/6 weeks to find another job and to get out of the place. Of course, if I can`t find a job (Knowing my luck the way it`s going now I will be stuck their) I will stick at it until I do but I can`t imagine what it will be like.

So at the minute i`m applying for anything and everything. Can feel myself getting depressed so trying not to worry about it too much. But for now the receptionist career is on hold.
