Any advice please on opening a joint account

Hi,

Me and my fiance need to open some sort of joint account where we both can transfer money in each month to pay for bills, shopping etc. We were going to go with A&L but were told we could'nt as she already has a A&L account.

Purely to pay bills, no savings.

Any suggestions?

Don't understand that. What sort of account do you want to open and what sort of account does she have?

Hubby and I had, at one time, joint current account, both of us had an ISA each and both of us had an Online Saver each with Alliance & Leicester.

You could look at Sainsburys, good rate and you can have as many individual and joint accounts as you like. You can pay bills by BACS transfer.

Thats my hubbie to be up there!!

I have an A&L current account, and if I open another current account with them it would have to be their "basic account" which gives no interest, heavy overdraft fees etc. Whilst the account is not for savings we will let a little bit of money build up so why should we let the bank have the benefit of it, and not pay us interest? Most banks that pay more than the pants 0.1% that the high street banks pay have a minimum amount to pay in each month, and initially we would be paying less into the joint account until my house sells.

    Aargh! Any ideas/suggestions greatfully received!

We have a number of independent accounts so opened a new one, when we wanted a joint account, with Nationwide (Flexaccount). It's been great (had it a year). We both have Debit cards and a cheque book, and the idea was to use it as a holiday savings account and put in odd amounts when one or other could afford it, I also have a occasional spare time job that generates small amounts of cash and these get paid in. We opened it online and run it online, also started an e-account recently (paying 5.8% now) linked which means we can move funds over to get some interest, and this summer a credit card, as we were going abroad and they offer the only surcharge free cc on the market.
