New Boiler Installation

We need a new boiler as we have been told it's on the way out by a Plumber who is a family friend. He has quoted us at £2000 to take the 16 year old one from the kitchen and put a new combination boiler up in the loft, freeing up our upstairs airing cupboard from the hot water tank.

I have been told this is quite a high quote, and was wondering if anyone out there has got their Gas supplier (in this case Southern Electric) to fit a new system as I understand they offer 0% interest?

Any recommendations..?

It does sound a bit much. New boiler about £1000, 2 days to fit? £1500 tops.

MIL paid £2300 for new boiler. It involved ripping out old back boiler and replacing with new combi boiler. I thought it was a bit steep but she took first quote as she knew the plumber!!

My backboiler is a 30 year old so I'm anticipating replacing soon (I've been saying that for 11 years!). I have £2k put aside for the cost of replacing boiler and fireplace.

If he is Corgi registered and will provide certs then this seems a fair price IMO

I had similar work done last year, came in just under 2K after getting a few quotes, included all plumbing, gas pipes, electrics, new flue & heating system power flush

PS you may need access to the boiler to check water pressures occasionally, make sure you have a loft ladder or easy access

The lowest quote we got from a CORGI registered plumber for a new boiler, pipes, powerflush, thermostat etc is £2800. London, though. That's for a condensing combi boiler, supposedly a decent one and a slightly unusual installation which involves routing the flue through the roof. HTH.
  • Many thanks for all the advice received thus far. Has anybody had dealing with their gas suppliers and what are the payment options?
