Simply use of account switching. I made use of the identical offer in February and (at the time) had a Bank of Scotland account to close w/ 2 £1 direct debits leaving for Tesco (RIP) and whilst that assured me they would have something 'to switch' a couple of (no number specified) existing 'pin pong' standing orders would have stood in just as well.

So, yes. Got for it if you missed the last one.

I've just done the barclays but was surprised and quite pleased that i didn't have to do it as a switch, i can now save my halifax for the next offering, and still get my £3 reward while i'm waiting.

Damn should have read the tcs only get double rewards if switching an account, will have switch halifax now doh!
  • Do you have to pay the £1500 into the account in one go?
Also can you put £500 in and withdraw it and then put in again etc to make up the £1500?

    No.

    Yes.
  • I arranged to switch in February and when I realised this month that I had not received the switching bonus I rang to check. They told me that during the switch I was not eligible for the Select account and I was opened a foundation account with no rewards. Switched to Halifax today and got the £75 immediately!

Disappointed I wasn't advised about the type of account during the switch!

Even though some banks try to make them appear seamless, you first need to open an account and then (separately) switch into it, so your issue would have arisen at account opening rather than switching stage.

Frankly I would be amazed if they hadn't sent you email or paper correspondence saying what type of account they'd opened for you, as these are heavily-regulated activities - are you saying they didn't correspond with you at all?
  • Bit confused to receive post through my letterbox as well as emails, but responded to both and my switch seems to be going through OK.

I used a newly setup Barclays account as my donor as I ended up with this following links provided on MSE and by Barclays themselves. Trying to switch online just didn't seem possible which seems very odd given Natwest and Halifax (for example) are both able to do this.

Hopefully I'll end up with £125, but if not, I have a bank I can use to pay cheques in on a Wednesday, which seems another thing I can't do with my Barclays account, despite my understanding that they offer cheque imaging.

Do NatWest offer accounts to discharged bankrupts (discharged over 10 years)? I'm sure they didn't in the past but I don't know if they've changed their criteria.

I can answer my own question - yes they do. I've been accepted for an account subject to providing more information. I was offered a £2250 overdraft which I declined!
