DSA application advice required.

Has anyone applied for DSA with the disability being mental health?

Do the Student Finance Direct usually request a full professional report on how mental health affects study and life in Higher Ed?

I have already sent them a diagnosis way back in April when I first applied for finance and they have just informed that they need more info on my mental health.

Any help/advice would be great. Thanks in advance.

  • I would suggest you contact Disability Services Team at the University or College you attend. You will find them more than helpfull.

Re reports, I had to provide details of Health Professionals who had accessed my problem! They did mess around a little and ended up accepting a three line report from my family GP???? If you have seen your GP recently he should be able to confirm your illness and on-going treatment... worth a try!

Help I've recieved to date -

    1. Dell Laptop - xp professional and Office 2003 2. Epsom Printer 3. Sony Digital Dictaphone 4. Dragon 9.5 Dictation package with training on-site 4. Laptop Case 5. £150 allowance /year for consumables. 6. USB11 Pen Drive 7. NImh battery pack and charger. On paper this package is over £3K

Oh - they send an engineer out to your home to set everything up as well ! Full 3 x year warranty including insurance cover on everything except the software.

    Hope this helps?

Don't see my GP RE: my mental health, however, I am under a Psychiatrist. It was he that originally give them a written diagnosis.

I have made an appointment with the student disability office so will see what they suggest I do.
