Car insurance for overseas drivers

My brother-in-law is over here for a year and is in the process of buying a car. He is 33 with a clean record in Australia. He is in the process of buying a car here but has been quoted quite a high price (£700+ for insurance). Is this always going to be expensive or are there ways of getting a cheaper deal?

Shop around, but unless he can find someone who will take his record in Australia into account then he is in effect a new driver and premiums will be priced accordingly.

I would have thought £700 was really cheap for a non UK licence holder? with zero no claims.

If they are treating him as a new driver then £700 is stupidly cheap even for a Brit new driver. So my guess is that they are making some sort of allowance for his Australian driving record.

Insurance sure is expensive, I would agree with shopping around,

    Do you now.

As mentioned if the insurance can be got for £700 then its a good price.

That seems a decent price to be fair. Overseas drivers will always pay more as driving in that country will always be different to driving over here so inevitably they will pay more until they gain experience.
