Change my business name and employee contracts

Hi all,

I’m looking at changing my company name slightly so it corresponds to the type of work I do.

The issue I have is that I currently have an employee that obviously has a contract. If I change the name of my company (on companies house etc) would I need to provide a new contract of employment or could I write an amendment to his existing contract to say it’s now been renamed?

Can anyone help please?

I think you don't need to do anything - the company is still the same legal entity (and company registration number), you are just changing the name (using form MN01 or online equivalent).

If you form a new company and it takes over the existing company as a going concern then you'd be into TUPE regulations etc.

I'm almost with Owain. Whenever there's a change, a letter confirming it is good practice. Dear Fred, as you know I have changed the company name to Smudgers, this does not affect the terms and conditions of your employment as set out on DATE OF PREVIOUS STATEMENT OF T&C.
