Ethical issue with budget fashion website

Options
Hello

This may not be in the right board so please move if necessary.

I am joined up with a cheap fashion website as is my sister. She has recently purchased two items with 'faux fur' on them.

When she received them they were real fur, nothing 'faux' about them except the colour. She contacted them twice and got fobbed off basically. They did say she could return them but they are still selling them as faux fur on the site.

I then contacted them as I'm so disgusted and have been totally ignored. The items are still being sold as faux fur.

I think this is horrendous and want them to list them as genuine fur. It's put me off purchasing from there.

Is there anything that can be done to make them behave responsibly?

Thanks

Nobody else has commented so I will. Firstly, vote with your feet, as you appear to be doing. Escalate your complaint within the company, and continue to use social media to raise the issue. Obviously not the best place here!:-)

Maybe try Anna Timms at The Guardian and other similar consumer pages?

I wouldn't buy fur myself but it's not an issue that engages me. Actually nor does fashion.:D

Definitely put them to task on social media!

I remember reading a little while ago about how now real fur was so cheap it was being used in place of faux fur, and i fully get your disgust.

I heard the same about it being cheaper and while it may have been marketed to them by the manufacturer as faux, the fact it isn't and the fact it's been pointed out to them makes livid! Thanks the advice, might make a point on twitter. :)

Incidentally, I don't see why you couldn't name the name of the company here, to avoid others being caught in the same way.

A bit of a bump to this thread, but in case the OP is still around they might find this interesting:

  • I know this is a bit late, but just wanted to say that for a good few months now they have changed their approach. Real fur is now just titled 'fur'. I called them out on Twitter about it, don't know if it was down to that but I am hoping there were other complaints too.
