European breakdown cover
I am coming to the end of a breakdown policy with Start rescue. They have offered a good renewal price but as our car is now 11 year old won't give us European cover and we are driving to France in July for 8 days. I have used the MSE compare breakdown cover link and have had various prices but the cheapest are with companies I've never heard of! £51.85 with Auto-rescue Logistics which says it covers
Section 1: Basic Cover
Roadside Assistance 30 minutes
Local Recovery Up to 25 miles
National Recovery Transport to home or destination
Section 3: Silver Cover Offers the following in addition to Basic Cover Benefits:
Onward Travel
i) Alternative transport
ii) Overnight accommodation (£75 per person, £250 in total)
iii) Replacement vehicle (£100)
Home Start At or within 1 mile of home address
Section 4: Gold Cover Offers the following in addition to Silver Cover Benefits:
Cover in Europe Up to 31 days per trip
Repatriation Market Value of your vehicle
Callout Limit 6 callouts
Claim Limit Max £2,500 total claims per year
They cover cars up to 15 years old.
On another site I have looked at the cheapest for a main 'known' one is Greenflag excess which is £86 for the year but has a £40 excess per call out.
Reviews for all breakdown cover companies seem to vary vastly and I just don't know what best to do. I would like cover that will get us home if we breakdown in the UK, will get us started / to a garage if we breakdown at home but most importantly will help us if we are stuck in France (and unable to speak French). Any advice greatly appreciated!

Co op is coming up at £109 which with no excess is competitive with the other 'well known' companies. It is provided by AXA. I just don't know what to do for the best!0 -
Hi, if you open a Nationwide flexplus account which costs £13 per month, European breakdown cover is included as well as Worldwide travel insurance.
We cancelled our Natwest packaged account & opened one of these. They also pay you some interest on up to £2500 balances, this offsets the £13 by a small amount.0 -
Be aware that if you breakdown on the Peage in France. Only the Peage operated recovery is allowed to come to your assistance.I am not a cat (But my friend is)0
