Hi

Have a default on my files for NatWest for an Overdraft that defaulted in May 2013 with a balance of £2874.

The account shows under "closed" on Clearscore but with the amount still owing.

I want to apply for a mortgage soon - do I risk waiting for it to drop off next year and hope a CCJ isn't applied (surely they would have done this by now?), or could it be sold on to a collection agency (again surely this would have been done by now?).

Or do I contact them to make a settlement offer?
Would this count as acknowledging the debt, even if I contact them by phone rather then by letter?

If I make a settlement offer, does this look better on my files? It is the only negative on my files at the moment and I cannot get any mainstream cards, only sub-prime ones then.

Also to add to this I did update NatWest when I moved address many moons ago and no correspondence has been sent to me in the post.

Many thanks!!

They're likely to go for a CCJ in the last month or two of the 6 years, once they decide you're not going to pay up without further encouragement.

It's up to you whether to settle it or gamble. A CCJ will be on your files for another 6 years, unless settled within a month.

    Thank you.

Does making a settlement offer constitute acknowledging the debt?

    Even by phone?

I thought acknowledgement was only by writing only?

I have a defaulted account due to an overdraft too which they eventually closed. They have informed me that they will not chase for the amount owed but I can make payments, although mine is for around £500 so may be of less interest to them
Just trying to make up for past mistakes and work towards the future I want :hello:
