Whistler, Canada - Skiing Accomodation & Tips

Guys,

Thanks for reading.

I have been desperatley searching the net & have reached a brick wall, so am putting the call out for some help.

6 of us are looking to go to Whistler in Canada, skiing for a week or so at the end of January 08.

We need help in finding some accomodation. We have flights all sorted but cant find somewhere to stay. Ideally we would like to be in our own self catered chalet, or apartment. We like a bit of luxery and if we are travelling all the way to canada, feel we should push the boat out.

So far i have only found the standard mainstream hotels, which is not really what we want.

We would love to have somewhere that is close to the action, where we can ski in/out, or be close to the lifts.

Any help, or any tips for travelling to whistler and staying there would be greatly appreciated....

Thanks

  • I've just booked Whistler for Feb at the Westin Resort and Spa.

Not the chalet you were looking for, but the Westin is described as "high-end self-catering accomodation" and consists of all luxury suite accomodation. It is ski in/ski out, and apparently has one of the best locations in Whistler for both mountains.

We booked through Ski Safari (http://www.skisafari.com/Ski-Canada-Whistler-Westin-Resort-and-Spa-Property-Info.aspx).

    Hope this helps!

Have you been on www.snowheads.com ?? The forum is set up just like this and they have pages of questions like your own about Everywhere.

    It's worth a look.

    or

Both do privately owned condo's of a very high standard, usually with hot tub, private ensuite etc.

If you have the nerve to hold on, you can get some excellent last minute deals. This winter will be our third trip doing it this way.

We're doing a three week road-trip in Canada end of January 08 and will only book accom' for the first 4 or 5 days before we leave UK, will take the laptop and rely on finding some wifi and just book the next few weeks as we go.

We have the advantage of having 2 sets of relatives in BC, so we can stay in Lower Fraser Valley or in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies :D .

Summer or winter, We're sorted. :D:D:D

For ski-ing, we prefer Hemlock, Cypress or Grouse if we're near Vancouver or Big White and Sun Valley if we're up near Kamloops.

For Vancouver, the ski hills are so close to the city it's incredible!!! That would give you the choice of lots of Vancouver/Fraser Valley accommodation, without paying ski resort prices.

We stayed in the Whistler Marriott this year- it was great! Usual Marriott standards, nice big room with balcony, living room area, full kitchen, bedroom and nice bathroom. Ski in and out on Blackcomb from the back doors of the hotel. Reasonably priced too, has a nice swimming pool too- heated in winter, iirc.

You'll only ski one mountain a day over in Whistler, they're so big!! So take that into account when thinking about the need to get around. There's a shuttle bus that stops outside the hotel every 10 minutes or so that takes you down into the main village- which is, by the way, a really cool place to be- lots of lovely, friendly folk, not many people significantly older than us (late thirties)

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/hotel-rooms/whsri-residence-inn-whistler/ is the link. Don't know what your budget is, though. Not much that's very cheap over there.

Allow 3 hours + to get to Whistler from Vancouver, the roadworks to upgrade for the Winter Olympics go on for miles...gorgeous scenery, though, so it's not such a big deal.:D

  • Hi,

I received an email from these people, Holiday Lettings, this week, the web address is www.holidaylettings.co.uk, there was quite a good section of canada ski accomodation listed. I am not sure what they are like as I have never used them, but did look at them earlier in the year when trying to find accomodation in Spain. Maybe someone else has used them and can advise?

Hi, just found this thread using the search function, as we are planning to spend Christmas at Whistler this year - yes, I know its going to be very expensive, but its to celebrate a significant birthday!!

I'd love for any of the posters to PM me with their experiences, which accommodation they've gone for, anything at all really!!

    Have a great time!

I visited Whistler in July with my family again i know this is a hotel not the condo you were looking for but i stayed at the Holiday Inn and the room we had would comfortably sleep 6 in 2Bedrooms and a pull down out the wardrobe bed in the lounge and the couch was also a double bed setee. Max occupancy 6 but has including the couch 4 doubles. Again in our room there was also the added bonus of the full kitchen.
Great location ski in ski out and not realy like being in a hotel. There is a hot tub facility and just steps away you are in the main courtyard areas lots of bars and restuarants i'd stay here.
