My 8mm video camera has no picture, only sound

I bought a Sony 8mm video camera 8 years ago and it has lasted me all this time before I jump over to digital.

Only now, I went to record a couple of tapes onto DVD and the playback screen has gone blue. I have perfect sound, just no picture.

I can't find anything in the manual to cover this 'error' anyone any ideas please ??

I just want to be able to record a birthday party to DVD and then I will quite happily buy a new one

Thanks in advance

Hi just a longshot but have you checked all connectors are fully pushed home? I've had similar in the past when a scart lead wasn't properly seated.

Yes, thanks for suggesting that. I should have mentioned, that even with no leads attached on normal playback on the wee LCD screen it is only showing blue, not just when I am attaching it to tv etc. Thanks though, it could easy have been that

I had a similar problem on my Canon 8mm camcorder that had been neglected for a couple of years - I eventually worked out that it was the Lithium watch-type battery (in my case a CR2032) used for Date/Time and other settings - it apparently had some other function that affected the viewfinder/playback.
It might be worth checking to see if your camera has something similar (if it preserves the date and time when the main battery is removed then it probably does!)
    Au Res.,

I have just tried to rewind it whilst playing and I get a picture when I rewind it - but returns to blue when I stop it and try to play at normal speed. Any ideas ??
