New Irons not working.

Hope one of you clever MSErs can help. Just bought a second new iron in the space of a week (different makes one from Argos, one Wilko) both not working at all when I plug them in. My old iron and everything else works when I plug them in. Help! :)

Take them back. Get a refund.

did they fail to work in any socket? did you turn them up so they would get hot? 2 different irons not working is very very unlucky or user error.

Yes I turned them up, they are supposed to turn on/ light on as soon as you plug them in.; I've been using irons for years, it seems a bit strange that two different new irons did not work....

Was the replacement iron the same make and model as the one you took back?
If so then it's possible that it's a faulty batch.

As asked by tonyh66, did you try the irons in a different power socket or try something else apart from the irons in the same socket to make sure that it's okay?

It sounds like it could be the socket, as suggested. Bad contacts often don't show signs until a high power device is used.

The light won't come on if the iron is on the lowest setting.

The simpler option is just to try plugging the iron into a different socket.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
