Motorcycle insurance?

Would those in the know who are reading this just jump on GoCompare for insurance quotes or is there any recommended insurance companies amongst the motorcycle community that people go to that aren't listed on sites like GoCompare?

If it matters then the bike is a Kawasaki ZR 750 L8F.

You will regret buying the cheapest of you ever need to make a claim.

MCN Compare is usually pretty good but check out the companies offered and read a few reviews on them first.

I was with CN for a number of years. Great service but this year their premium was ridiculous so switched to Bennets. Multi-bike policy R1200Rt and GSF1250s) My OH insures her MT07 with the Post Office and they have been OK.

Haven't had a bike for a few years now but when I did it was always either Carole Nash or Bennetts as I used to swop every year or so to keep premiums down. Those two are where I'd start.

Carole Nash ended up being about £150 dearer.

In the end he went with a right joke of a company. The quote was £700, went through the payment process and after submitting it get a message to say he's not yet insured - until they get in touch.

Well they weren't going to call on a Sunday so it was today at the earliest - so he'd be paying for a day for nothing.

He had to call them today as they hadn't got in touch by late afternoon. They wanted him to go over the quote on the phone as though he was filling the form out a fresh - as a result he couldn't remember the specific details of the claims, such as exact dates (had to consult paperwork when doing the actual quote yesterday).

So they call back this evening. Get to the question of will it be used for commuting - he said no (he wasn't sure whether he'd use it for work or not yesterday)
They said but you said in your online quote "yes".
Oh well i'll have it down as yes then.

You can't do that because you said yes, then you said no. Blah blah blah something about insurance fraud.

This is going to cost you an extra £70 sir.

I'll just have it at the same details i filled the form out yesterday he says.

No you said yes then no so it has to go through as this and now that's £70 extra.

    What a joke.

Personally i'd have told them to stick their quote. I'd rather pay extra and go elsewhere than have that carry on.

What age are they and how many years NCB?
I never went for bikes until I was 34, but FC insurance has never been more than £150. Bike value never more than around £2500 though, that may make a difference too.
That's for 4000 mile policies, including commuting and pillion cover, bike garaged.

25 0NCB. Passed their bike test back end of last year.

Cheapest quote on this bike is £700, bought bike at £2.2k.
2000 miles on the insurance policy.

They may get a bit of a reduction as an ongoing claim since 2015 which has had to be declared as unsettled - they got their excess back in a cheque this week. I don't know whether that means the other guy has finally admitted liability or what. I know he'll still have to declare it as an accident but hopefully it wont be as a fault or a 50/50.
  • I was with CN for years but their premium went up loads this year. Tried Hodgson and Makenzie but had lots of trouble and quite aggressive emails about sending them relevant documents. Sent the documents in but they returned them as not still with CN (evidently they share the same building). After many phone calls and emails, with them admitting their admin errors, I received a refund from them and instead used MCE. No problems setting this up but I have had no experience of any claims (luckily).
