Can i add phone number to eBay listing or not?

Options
I’m selling a set of alloys and tyres on eBay, and someone messaged me wanting to view them, so I replied with my phone number. Message bounced back saying to remove it so I did, and sent the guy my home address

Couple of days later had a message/warning from eBay about not giving out personal information outside of eBay..

How can people contact me to view the wheels (or any item, for example a car or kitchen appliance) without me messaging them my details or me getting a warning???

Surely people view items before placing a bid?

Not under the new rules. Now you have one violation warning you need to be super careful as one more might see you restricted or even suspended temporarily.

eBay don't encourage any contact, let alone pre viewing now, you goth be better off using a local free ads site or Facebook/ schpock.

Soolin is right about eBay's strict rules nowadays, but for what it's worth I'm still putting my phone number in all my listings that are for collection only items.
Maybe I've just been lucky but I haven't had any warnings or problems, having had dozens of listings like this recently.
I'm not the only one either - I've seen loads of listings from other people with phone numbers on them.

Just try doing this rather than sending your number via a message, which seems to be where things get picked up and the problems start...

You have been lucky, and on eBay it isn't a case of what others do, but who gets caught and banned first.

The OP has one warning already, another will definitely get him restricted and possibly even a short ban. In your case if eBay give you a warning in bulk you should be OK, but if they give a warning for each and every breach then you also are risking your account.

    Rules are here

    Don’t include:

Any email addresses or contact details.

Soolin is right, you have been extremely lucky I know two people who have received a 7 day ban for exchanging contact details Another has received a life time ban.

If eBay even thinks you are attempting to exchange details they will assume you are trying to sell outside eBay.

To get round these silly rules I have a photo of each item with a piece of paper with my phone number by the item. I do not use this in the listing but send it to anyone who needs to contact me. Just message "here is another pic of ......" This seems to get through OK.

Again it's fine until you get caught and then whoosh, there goes your account. There was a business seller on the boards doing this in a slightly less subtle way, sending a random photo and including their business card in the photo, apparently had done it for months. Then bang, several warnings in a go and suspended for 7 days and then for some odd reason ban was extended to 30 days.
