British Gas In Credit Refund

stevi23
stevi23 Posts: 2 Newbie
I logged onto my British Gas account to see I was £775.60 in credit and could request a refund. The refund they offered me after "billing my account" was £104.
Is this standard practice or can I claim my full amount in any way? Currently on maternity leave and it would come in really handy!
I feel wronged!

What is your credit after the billing? It seems your billing has eaten into your credit.

The credit has now reduced to £104. I submitted meter readings during the week, when these were applied it didn’t take my usage anywhere near as how high they are now stating.

Have you previously been billed by estimates?

It would seem that they have previously billed you with estimated readings and the readings you have entered today have played catch up.

You really need to look at your bills over a period of time and check whether you've got any estimated bills and that the last one is based on an actual reading.

If you haven't been sending in regular readings or checking and correcting estimated bills, then make sure that you wont suddenly end up owing lots of money later on in the year.

Many people get caught out by not understanding what they've been billed, what they've paid and the credit or debit shown or how their consumption varies throughout the year.

Some energy companies muck about with direct debit amounts based on quarterly or six monthly reviews which can cause the customer to suddenly go into large arrears or credit. Be aware.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
