Removing varnish from shed

10 years ago hubby built a shed, rather large, he then de died to varnish it, with Yacht varnish. Not one coat but three. Now varnish is starting to bubble, flake and full off. In some places with have black marks. Now I have spent 2and half hours out there with an electric sander, used more sandpaper than they stock In B and q and can’t get back to the bare wood. I have managed to do about 2 foot squAre. Shed is 26 foot by 16 foot, so this is turning into the fourth bridge.
Anyone got any recommendations of something that will strip off this varnish.
Hopefully I can then treat it wil fence stain as I don’t fancy doing this in another 10 years.

You!!!8217;re probably using the wrong type of sander. Get yourself a cheap be.t sander from screwfix.

Breathing in a little bit of dust/varnish might not do you too much harm but the amount coming off a large shed is a different matter.0 -

But was the varnish on your ceiling bubbling and flaking off?0 -
No but a quick sand down should sort that out its used as a primer for other products. op did say they sanded it down as it just started to flake/bubble it saves work of completely sanding the whole areashaun_from_Africa wrote: »But was the varnish on your ceiling bubbling and flaking off?0

Yachting forums have plenty of advice on which of the currently available chemicals will strip it, but I wouldn't sand it - I'd use my heat gun and a scraper - I'm sure it would be much quicker.0
