Re asking after running my Asus 32emc intel atom laptop Win10 past year approx.
Fun laptop when required, though I hope to save for another win10 laptop.
Thinking maybe some of the 128 ssd laptops could suffice.
If possible financially maybe i3 cpu.
Light office use -existing word doc's+excel -maybe some internet browsing.
Want to avoid Lenovo as I use that in office
Certainly consider another Asus +others such as hp/dell etc.
My question msers' -is 128gb ssd enough for recent win10 updates such as spring, fall and creators etc -I haven't reviewed which updates are the most recent though I understand my 32gb isn't enough other than some recent security updates.
E.G. budget from initial 128ssd v-maybe from 399 for slightly more.
Note I'm happy with my iPad Pro I'm not looking for a high power win10 laptop -just if and when I need access from home to win10 apps etc.

I'll start with an example of spec I'll consider
    ASUS VivoBook 14 X405 14" Laptop
    Intel® Core!!!8482; i3-7100U Processor
    - Dual-core
    - 2.4 GHz
    - 3 MB cache
RAM 4 GB (16 GB maximum installable RAM)
    Storage 128 GB SSD

Is there any others to consider,if so-why

128GB SSD is fine, why avoid Lenovo? You say you're not interested in a powerful one, just one for "as and when needed to use Windows apps" so why not consider something like a refurbished Thinkpad T430? You would get one sub £200 and it'd be Core i5 and SSD.

Thanks, I'd rather make a choice other than a brand which I ssociate with work-I like my home tech to feel different if possible.
I haven't yet considered refurb t430-I'll try a search and consider.-i5+ssd-sub200 that could be a much sooner than planned purchase, thanks!
I mentioned 'as and when needed' as I use iPad Pro for browsing though there has been one or more times when win10 would be preferred -not often though could be helpful

    In addition to quoted reply
Is there a link to sub200 thinkpad- (aka Lenovo)
As I didn't immediately see any ssd' thinkpads at that cost.

As Tarambor suggested, you may be interested in a Business Grade notebook with an SSD. Business Grade: Thinkpad, Latitude, Elitebook, Tecra etc, they are far better quality construction (including keyboard, mouse-pad etc) and durability than any of consumer models.

The below site is that one of many site who specialises Business Grade computers. There are many others at eBay as well. So just reference but you can get some ideas.

    https://www.encore-pc.co.uk/laptops?cat=20

You need to add some options
    Memory upgrade: 4GB (or 8GB)
Hard disk upgrade: 120GB SSD (or alternatively you can install an SSD by yourself)
    1 year warranty (option)

I assume that you can save up to £100-150 with far better durability than your ASUS (or any other) consumer model. No rush, do your research please. But I think that the business refurbish SSD notebook is the right direction.

As it happens I'm using a refurb T430 which I bought on eBay. You just need to keep a lookout. This was the spec for mine...

    Lenovo ThinkPad T430 Intel(R) Core(TM)i...
    Ram: 4GB, Windows 7/10: Windows 10, HDD/SSD: 120GB SSD
    Item ID: 112622939940
    Quantity: 1
    Estimated delivery: Tue. 16 Jan.
    Paid: £175.00 with PayPal

Here's a link to the sellers current items. Others may be better.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Though considering what my requirements are, think I've decided on the following laptop.
    http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Product.aspx?id=1RK30EA&opt=ABU&sel=NTB

    14" Full HD
    Windows 10 Home 64
    Intel® Core!!!8482; i3-7100U (2.4 GHz, 3 MB cache, 2 cores)
    35.6 cm (14") diagonal FHD (1920 x 1080) display
4 GB memory; 128 GB SSD storage
HP Fast Charge; HD Webcam; USB-C; B&O Play Audio; Metal Keyboard deck

£369-this purchase maybe discounted if I successfully sell my Asus Atom Win10 laptop only a few hours left via e-bay.
All going well new hp laptop could be 300+
Haven't ordered yet-though the specs are excellent with i3cpu 128gb ssd.
Maybe a saving up project to acheive the required funds.
The Thinkpad ideas did cover those specs though most were refurbs and went up in cost when ssd's and ram were upgraded hence I;ve decided on new hp instead.

Well I really have to respect your choice, but so sorry to say another bulky consumer notebook here, Pavilion, Satellite etc etc.

I have dealt with these recent low quality consumer models via my volunteer work. Last 3-4 years, the consumer grade notebook built quality is getting worse. I won't be surprised if the mouse pad would become unresponsive in a couple of years....

Agreed as I previously used 13" macbook pro's with smoothest trackpad I'll ever use.
I have since used other trackpads since (not owned by myself) some of which. Can be unresponsive on use. Maybe I'll get to try hp in a store though that's where they rise in cost about 400 which I'd rather avoid.
