shower expertise needed please

Hi I need to get a new shower as my current one isn't working properly now. When I turn it on, hot water still dribbles out but it doesn't make the electric sound any more.

I went to B&Q and spoke to one of the assistants there and he said I need to know what wattage it is. Apparently I can't have a shower with higher wattage than the wiring (or something like that - I'm not completely sure)
How can I find out what the wattage is on my current shower?

Some info about the current shower:
It's at least 17 years old.
Newteam Jetstream 2000s.
There are 2 pipes going into the ceiling from the unit which has 2 dials on it.
I don't know if it's a power shower or not.
There's a cold water tank in the loft above.
There's a hot water tank in the airing cupboard in the room next to the bathroom.
There's an electric switch in the airing cupboard and I don't know what it does. Someone said once they thought it was something to do with the shower. I've never touched it in 17 years!
I've got a normal, not combi, boiler about 2 years old in a 2 bedroom house.

That's about it. I would appreciate any help on what type of new shower I will need and also what the electric box is for if anyone knows. I will be getting a plumber in to fit it, I just want to make sure I've got the right shower. Thank you.

You have a power shower - uses water from the tank and the hot water cylinder (hence two pipes feeding it)
It then pumps the water, mixes and delivers via the hose/shower head.
The mains electric involved is purely to run the pump, and is not high current.

B&Poo has given you incorrect advice as your setup is not an 'electric shower' (9kW common type)

Easiest way for you to change is to install another power shower.

'Electric box' will either be the electric supply for your power shower, or it could be an additional supply for an 'Electric shower' - your plumber will advise easily.

Thank you for this. It’s such a nightmare when you need something doing but you don’t know anything about it!

To be fair to B&poo they only gave me the incorrect advice because I gave them the incorrect information in the first place!

    Thanks again :)
