Background screening JSA

I've been offered a job role which requires a background screening of 3 years activity history. For substantial parts of the last 3 years I have been claiming JSA. Does anyone know how the screening company approach DWP? Do they just ask for confirmation of dates? Or do they ask what benefit I was receiving. Will DWP disclose the dates or will they ask me first? Also, I was claiming JSA previously (longer than 3 years ago), will DWP disclose this information to the screening company? The screening process only takes into account the past three years, so anything prior to that shouldn't be required, should it?

Also, whilst claiming JSA I was overpaid (I had more in my savings account than I knew about and was slightly over the threshold). DWP are still taking back this overpayment, will they mention this to the screening company? Are DWP likely to disclose any sanctions either? I am really worried they will and that it could cost me the job.

Sorry for so many questions, any help or info appreciated.

Thanks.

Don't take it as definitive but I very much doubt DWP would disclose anything in these circumstances.

You would need to provide proof from your own records or request the paperwork yourself from DWP/HMRC.
  • You can gain access to your HMRC data online on the dot.gov pages using same government gateway Id that you use for likes of universal job match. It's really very good.

At least last 4 years can be viewed and I recall from my recent viewing, it shows period of JSA, along with employment in the different years you can go into.

The employer can approach DWP with your consent. Because DWP will only disclose your information to the employer with your written consent/signature.

The employer forms vary in format. They either ask DWP to confirm the dates you've given the the employer for your JSA entitlement, or they'll ask DWP to tell them the period(s) your JSA was paid for.

DWP won't tell them anything about the overpayment, sanctions or anything like that. They simply tell the employer the period of your JSA entitlement.

The forms aren't regarded as a particularly high priority either at the DWP Service Centres or the Job Centres. Don't hold your breath for an early reply.
