My friend removed a radiator downstairs by draining the system and capping off the pipes where the radiator was, since then the two radiators downstairs front and back rooms are cold what could it be?

Any advice would be great!!

Two possibles - firstly air has got into them when the system was drained - try bleeding them (little key in the valve at one end, loosen (but don't remove it, if water comes out its not got air in it, if air comes out wait for the water and then screw it back up).
The second possibility is that the removed radiator was effectively the route to the other two and you've now isolated them. Is there a house thermostat near the removed radiator? Often that radiator is fixed full on to ensure that the thermostat works so whoever installed it may not have included pipework to bypass it so with the pipes capped there is no way for hot water to reach the other two.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Hi
WestonDave is right, the air lock being the most likely. Do you know what kind of system you have, does it fill by a tank in the loft?
Turn off all the other rads and see if that moves it.

Thanks for the reply, bleeding them has been tried. I am 99% sure that the radiator that has been removed was an end radiator not going to another. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. Not 2 sure but i will find out, I can remember a sealed unit being mentioned. Should I keep the 2 cold rads open together when the rest get closed? If it's not this what else could it be?The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. It costs nothing and means so much.0 -
Hi
A sealed system will move air around a lot quicker than an open vented one.
Yes you can keep both open together.
When you bled the two cold rads did you get water or nothing at all.?
I take it that both rads are actually turned on at both ends (The reason I ask is that doing a 'phone consultation with a friend a couple of days ago he swore the room stat was turned up .In fact he had turned it right down.He then had heating )

Water did come out. He didn't change anything like closing them down that I know of, just drained the system, took the rad off, filled it back up and bled them. The best things in life are for FREE!!!If you like what you see and find this info useful, please use the thanks button. Hi
Go for turning all the rads off!! Run the heating as normal and go round turning off one end of each rad, listen for air in the system, you might not need to do all of them.

Edit.. Just noticed it's your friend ,not you.Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0 -
