safestyle windows problem

Hi,


wondering if anyone has any advice about safe style, unfortunately we have had our windows replaced by them at a cost of £3500, they told us it would be a day, I've now had 3 day's off work and they have left us with uneven windowsills, out of shape windows, and not filled any gaps around 4 of the windows,


I told the fitters that I will not be signing until all the problems are fixed, he said he would be back the next day to finish off the windows, but the 4 that are out of shape would need replacing.


safe style called me this morning saying the replacements will be done on the 23rd which is 2 weeks away, until then we have to live with unfinished windows that are not even sealed.


we are due to having our granddaughter over the weekend but because of the drafts we are unable to do this, I will also need to take more time off work to sit and hope they refit them in a day.


basically a one day job is turning out to be a four day job (if replacements done in a day) over 2 weeks.


I have plenty of pictures if anyone is interested.


any advice would be appreciated,

Youre probably going to be pretty limited to putting in a complaint. The outcome of which will be completely down to safestyle.

You can try the sueing route but if you end up with new windows within a reasonable time there isnt going to be much in the way of compensation.

Start off with a complaint, be polite, dont exagerate and highlight all the key problems, try not to waffle too much and stick to the facts. And see how they respond.

Change your phone number, youre about to get calls from 1000 different blind companies.

Dead easy and quick to temporary seal some windows for two weeks. Which raises two scenarios. Why are SafeStyle not bothered? The answer is because nobody should ever use Safestyle because the company could not care less about anything. This is the norm with Safestyle. So that raises the second scenario. Temporary sealing with a skeleton gun and some acrylic external sealant becomes a DIY job for the consumer. The tubes are only around £1.50 in Toolstation so away you go. You may need some backer foam strip. Or get a gun and expanding foam - more difficult, or ram some Rockwool in there. Deduct the cost from the final payment to Safestyle.

All this may sound harsh, or it may sound like faff, but trust me, dealing with Safestyle is a nightmare.

The fitters and Safestyle are two separate entities. Your contract is with Safestyle. The fitters are likely to be on a fixed fee arrangement with Safestyle, and a pretty poor one at that. You can imagine what this means when Safestyle tell them they need to go back and fix something. If they have already done a poor job when getting paid, I don't care to wonder what sort of job they will do when they are working for free.

You need to get clued up about windows and, politely but firmly, tell both the fitters and Safestyle exactly what is wrong and what you expect to be done, and monitor the fitters whilst they are working to ensure they don't screw up again. This won't be easy, and I wouldn't want to do this myself.

Make sure you keep your only real bargaining chip with this company - your money - until the work is complete to your satisfaction.

...and learn from this: if Safestyle are just telling a window company to fit some windows, you have to wonder why you couldn't have gone to a (reputable) window company direct in the first place, i.e., what value are they adding?

Sounds like them time I used Hammonds Furniture. They use contractors and it was the shoddiest worst wardrobes ever fitted. Nothing straight or aligned, full of scratches and definitely not worth the high prices they charge. Best avoid these national outfitters.

You say four windows are out of shape. Two reasons typically here. Either the windows have been over tightened into the openings without packers, or there are protrusions into the opening that have not been removed. Both are signs of bad window fitting and neither are a sign that new windows need to be manufactures. When you add this to out of level window cills (again bad preparation)and unfilled gaps it strongly suggests your issue is not your windows but instead your fitters. These folks are likely the cheapest, roughest sub contractors that Safestyle could find on the day to fit your windows

This means your strategy is wrong - why wait weeks for the same buffoons to return and your problems then start all over again?
