BBC article on Tenant Rights

Interesting article from the BBC about Tenant rights and eviction here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-44041999

Some good info I think, but note the common mistakes at their end too about credit "ratings" grrr...
"Can a landlord check my credit rating to see if I am at risk of failing to pay my rent?
Yes they can, but they must ask for your permission first"
To correct this: You have a credit history, not a rating, which many lenders can see.
BUT - a landlord is not a lender - and can't check your credit history - only your public file - limited to things like bankrupcy and CCJ's.

Isn't that what they are saying? That they can ONLY if the tenant gives permission? A LL can ask what they want, it's up to the tenant to decide whether they are prepared to share that information. Supply and Demand. Is supply is high, the LL won't care if you don't agree to something yet have 5 more willing to do so. The other way around and the tenant can tell the LL to get lost.

No, they cannot check (non-public) history with the Credit Reference Agencies even with the T permission.

They could ask the T to download/print their history themselves but that would presumably be pointless as it could be tampered with.
