    three suggestions:
1 ask around those who have moved on a year or two, used books usually get sold on.
2 Have you tried 'freecycle'? Particularly in the area your gf is at uni? Seems like something people may pass on
3 I find Foyles on-line bookshop cheaper than Amazon and better p&p charge too (free over £10). They have a medical section which looks well stocked. they are registered with Quidco if you use that site.

Try https://www.bookkoob.co.uk which lists the cheapest sites.

There may be books advertised on the notice boards at Uni from previous students. Also consider looking at Amazon Market place sellers. I sold one of the books on your list there.

Yep it's her first year, and she is at Nottingham Trent Uni.

I'll try those 2 sites you recommended.

i really doubt that she will end up needing all those books... they can be nice to have around but you can usually live without them. for statistics have a look at andy field's website (excellent psychology statistics lecturer in sussex). the others seem to overlap quite a lot so it may be easier to wait a little while and see which she prefers. there are usually reference copies of key texts in the library so even if they are all out, there should be copies to go through and have a look at. books get very expensive and even if you sell them on afterwards, you still 'lose' a lot of money.

I personally think it's best to have them at hand. Certainly methods/stats books anyway. Andy Field produced a good book (Understanding Statistics using SPSS 2nd edition) but it's interesting Andy endorses the one listed above on the Amazon description. For seriously advanced stats Using Multivariate Statistics (Paperback) 5th edition by Tabachnick and Fidell is a good book, but expensive and far too much for most undergraduates.

A book that's almost guaranteed to be useful throughout the course and the final year project in particular is Colin Robson - Real World Research: A Resource for Social Scientists and Practitioner-researchers. It tries to cover stats but is poor in this area.

I would say the Understanding Children's Development book is crap and a poor read. I regretted buying it anyway.

Also check out https://www.hotukdeals.com which has details of vouchers. For example http://www.hotukdeals.com/deal/49045/5-off-25-waterstones-com which unfortunately runs out tomorrow.
  • remember if she has an nus extra card she'll get a 5% discount at amazon. i had to get the understanding stats book and i've only just got it despite ordering it in freshers week so she needs to order quickly if she needs it anytime soon

i must say i have bought LOADS of psychology books at the cost of a small fortune for my degree, i have only really used one (giddins), But i did access the library for further reading.

the development psychology, whilst useful, imo wasnt worth the money!!!, neither was the understanding child development. However i have an agreement at my local age concern book shop for psychology books now, and they often ring me when they have them in. they did have books 5+6 last week which i turned down. i'll nip in in the morning (i'm going in anyway)to see if they still have them and get them for you - both books came to less than a fiver and i'll pm you tomorrow if i can still get them. in any way if you dont want them i might ebay them

She ordered some off Amazon 2 days ago and i'm not 100% sure on which ones she ordered, i'll let you know which ones she still needs asap. I know she still needs Understanding and Using Statistics in Psychology: A Practical Introduction though. Thanks for your help :)

The Amazon books arrived (easier to get them posted to my house rather than her uni accomidation).

The books she still needs are:

    Essentials of Social Psychology
Understanding and Using Statistics in Psychology: A Practical Introduction

Let me know if you have these or if you can get hold of them and how much each would cost.

    Thanks :)
