preserving NCB when sold one car of two

I had two cars insured each with their own policy and 5+ years NCD on both.I took one off the road when the insurance ran out in July 2017. Since the remaining car is up for renewal and the NCD on the canceled policy is valid for two years can I use the old policy as proof of NCD when I renew so that it does not expire next July ? I'd like to get the other car back on the road at some point.
