The original link doesn't work for me either. Says that the property can't be found.

    Perhaps this will work:

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-65066128.html

That is very weird. I tested the link after posting and it took you straight to the right house and now it says what the original link said - that it can't be found. Buy this house op. It's a supernatural mystery waiting to be solved.

The trouble/good thing is I'm not moving to be near family or start a new job or whatever, I'm just moving for a fresh start. It makes for a very wide search area! I'm open to suggestions/discouragements.

Good tips on Leek and Cheadle though, thanks todayisagreatday :)

How about Stafford? Or is that too far south?

    Or Nantwich?

Same. For anyone else who the link isn't working for, the details are here:

No floorplan would put some people off. Is the bathroom on the ground floor?

Major points I think would put majority off would be no parking, door leads straight into lounge, whole house needs re-decorating.

What is the ceiling price for houses in this area? Maybe if all that came to a lot of money people aren't willing to pay it because if they choose to resell in future, there would be no equity and may have to sell for less than they paid.

I don't think the ceiling price is an issue - that house, done up to the nines, isn't even going to scratch the ceiling price of the area because it's so small.

I don't think there's much of a mystery to be honest; it just looks tiny. Judging by the photos the quoted room sizes are..."deceptive".

I'd prefer Leek or Ashbourne to Cheadle tbh, but my budget disagrees!

I saw a really lovely house in Burton on Trent. If you could put that in Ashbourne or Leek I'd be a happy gal. But if it was in either of those towns they could just write 0's til their arm fell off as an asking price ha haa!

Lemme see if I can find a link, cos it's just about perfect as an example of what I'm after.

Edit: it's gone :( It was on Forest Road, on for £122,950. There is this one though, not as nice but looks alright -

That one is an ex council house so you might want to visit the estate on different days and at different times to see what it is like.

Budget appears to be ~£100k which which would put that one out of reach.

    There's a 1-bed with OSP in Stone for £81k:

    Maybe Uttoxeter?

  • Nantwich - good luck with prices there. I loved in Cheshire for 12 years (Northwich) and worked in Crewe (definitely get something in Crewe but my opinion of it is very low). Nantwich has good schools and is classed as the 'posh' part of South Cheshire. Unlikely to get anything around £100k and if you do, definitely check the area as parts of Nantwich are really bad.

Stafford isn't really the Peak District to be honest, and would easily take an hour plus to get to Cheadle or Leek which is the OPs preferred areas. I've just moved to Whitchurch in Shropshire. It reminds me a lot of Leek. It's a traditional market town, lots of walking and scenery, direct train links to Manchester, Shrewsbury and Wales (and Crewe to connect to London) - actually also two stops to Nantwich too.

Re my budget. It's a bit fluid atm, I can't get a mortgage or credit or whatever so my pot is finite - I just don't know exactly what that'll be.

We've accepted an offer on our house for £150k, so £75k each. With my savings I'll have £130k. But that's before solicitors and EA's and surveys ad removals etc etc.... I'm looking around the £120k and below, and I'm not afraid to make cheeky offers :) So maybe 100k but it needs work, fine. Maybe 120kish with no work, fine. I want to leave myself seed money to get started with again tho so I'm not spending it all.

Bathroom could be on the ground floor (a no-no for me) but if the rest of it was good I could live with it. I've emailed the agent about it but still waiting for a reply...

The link is being a PITA. On Rightmove - it's in Cheadle, Stoke on trent, a 2bed terrace, OA £99,950. Address is The Green, Cheadle. It's coming up in the listings :)

The Stafford one looks alright, I'll add it to my viewing list. I don't want to be too close to Manchester tho. I have half sisters that live in Sandbach and Nantwich, I'd prefer a good distance between us.

The Matlock one looks just right, I've emailed the agent and fingers crossed I can still view it!

The Uttoxeter one is worth a look. For the Stone one - I don't like stairs in the lounge.

And as for giving me another county to look at - I'll add it to my list :)

After a very quick look, this is the kind of thing I'd like -

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-64971730.html

Mid terrace, no stairs in the lounge, bathroom upstairs, no paved yard/patio gig. I like a garden to have actual grass and flowers in it :)

I haven't checked about area and shared access nonsense and room sizes etc, but that's the type of thing. Rooms do look a bit small but that's an acceptable compromise for a nice house in the right area.

Or a semi like this maybe (again just for the style, not studied area etc etc)

    http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-54223968.html

    I hope these links work!
