Windows 10 sound glitch

On this laptop, the sound sometimes resets itself to 67%. Several times now I've had my ears blasted while wearing in-ear buds. I've not noticed any logic to when this happens.
Is 67% some sort of default value in W10 or would that be controlled by the computer manufacturer's default settings? Seems a stupidly high value as a default; 5% would make more sense..
Thanks for any info or advice

Hmm - interesting ..
Mine always seems to have reverted back to 64% whenever i check ..
I had always presumed that my using remote control software to control various other machines had caused this so never bothered looking into it ..
Im going to now though0 -
How are the headphones connected?
Are you using any think like Skype or similar software as this can turn down the speakers and the reset it sometimes.0 -

Thanks. Not running anything exotic here. I might have mis-remembered the figure so perhaps its 64 here as well. My ears would be grateful for anything you find out..ChuckMountain wrote: »How are the headphones connected?

Buds connected just straight into the 3.5mm socket. Funny you should mention Skype - i dont use it but noticed it decided to install itself a week or so after buying the laptop... will check whether that is on the start list, thanks.0 -
I don't believe this.
On Saturday I was sorting out a lot of music tracks so I know sound level was fine.
Yesterday, pc did some Windows updates (not to 1803).
Now I've just logged onto here, put on music and it was much too loud, it was set at something in the 60s instead of around 50.
Move along, nothing to see.0 -
This has continued happening every few days. It is 67% it goes up to on this Dell. Sometimes you can adjust the sound slider back down to zero and it still blasts out at high volume for another six or eight seconds before responding.
Just had an example where there was a youtube music video on one tab in Edge. I paused it for half a minute and then unpaused and went up to 67%. Paused and restarted it again a bit later and it did exactly the same again.
Don't know whether it's a Windows 10, MS Edge or driver issue <shrug>0 -
This is probably the start of a slippery slope of sound and/or networking issues on your machine caused by W10 updates....I've already had machines had to be reverted to W7 as those two functions (with their drivers) seem to be the most vunerable to the changes to Windows10 and now this one is beginning to as well....as older drivers don't get updated to cope with W10 changes, functionality drops until they just don't work any more....thanks M$......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

^ that's interesting, thanks. After 6 months of using this machine, I'm not getting along with it and will probably sell. W7 was far preferable for a non-expert user. If not W7 then Apple will get the business. An ironic outcome from MS making windows look like iOS.0

If you're unable to cope with migrating from Windows 7 to Windows 10, why do you imagine that you won't have much greater problems adapting to macOS?coffeehound wrote: »W7 was far preferable for a non-expert user. I already have a Mac Mini and without needing to read any instructions, found it intuitive to use. Windows 10 has been little other than a pain in the erse.0 -
If you paste the make & model, someone may have a copy of the installation disk for W7.............Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
