Natwest, Nationwide to name 2. Nationwide wildly mentioned on this site for great non commisioned exchange rates when using abroad, got one and based in Swindon. The suite card offer points towards hotels on the hotelopia web site but they do charge normal expensive bank rates if you intend to use abroad, great for uk though and answered in Basildon Essex.:beer:0

Halifax are certainly in the UK - in my experience their operatives appear to be specially trained to be antagonistic, abrupt and unhelpful. A letter to Head Office normally sorts them out, but it shouldn't necessary. From what I read here this is becoming increasingly the norm for all credit cards and banks.0

About 8 years ago I worked in one of their call centres in Reading and lasted 2 days. Too unprofessional for my liking.0 -
first direct is based in Hamilton, Scotland and Leeds. Calls answered, usually, within three rings at most. VERY occasionally it rings a bit longer but always answered by a friendly customer service person at the other end in my experience.

Oh, and John Lewis' Partnership Card is based in Birmingham (at the HFC call centre). Both partnership and first direct are obviously all arms of HSBC which notoriously outsources, but these two seem to be marketed as 'niche' players perhaps and wanting to attract those who make a point of seeking out UK based/CS operated providers.0

But a Capital One operative from their indian call centre was the one that blurted out the surprise location of the holiday my husband had booked for me when I'd told them I didn't want to know.
Don't usually have a problem with indian call centres, but my Capital One account was closed within minutes of the phone going down.
On the other hand, the Virgin (MBNA) and Post Office (Bank of Ireland)'s call centres were both answered by UK operatives (at 10pm) and neither of them spilt the beans.
