I'm thinking about installing a simple camera at home as I have carers visiting my mother it will not be directed at anyone at the time of giving care or my mother but only pointed towards interior porch door to see who turns up to give the care as 2 are supposed to turn up and it's often done by one,to be able to record sound would be handy,we have a pc at home to send any footage to if that's how they work,so the least complicated and at a good price would be nice, also is it possible to have one that is Powered by an AC adaptor rather than having to get an electrician in,if anyone could suggest a paticular make and model that would be great

I use iegeek ones for external, does what you want (not sure about sound)
Can be saved to HD, sdcard.
Can be viewed remotely (anywhere in world) and also on a pc on same network.
Takes a couple of minutes to set up3.78 kWp PV SolarEdge with iBoost South facing.
30° pitch roof 4% shading. Installed 6th June 18.

Almost any of the domestic CCTV systems will do what the OP wants.
A friend recently replaced his Swann system with a Floureon one, they are quite low cost compared to Swann and perhaps more important, the recorder is silent. My Swann recorder has a very noisy fan, but as it is installed in a spare room it does not matter too much.
An external camera to pick up anyone approaching the front door is very useful and can act as a deterrent to dodgy callers.
While many systems can record sound, there are serious data protection issues with recording anywhere outside your own boundary, you can position cameras so as to minimise stray viewing and blank out public areas, the same is not possible with sound recording.
There are a lot of Floureon systems on eBay, many without the necessary hard disk drive, one with a hard drive is item number 202272674677
I have no direct experience of Floureon, but price wise it looks good value.0 -
We have Arlo. Wireless cameras, night vision, self-install, motion-activated/switchable to live view.
Can be controlled from smartphone/tablet/PC. Will require a broadband connection, though. We got additional (black) mounting brackets and balck neoprene sleeves through Amazon to make them less obvious (camera bodies are white).
Based on our current usage, camera battery life is around 12-13 mths with Panasonic Industrial range batteries.0 -

The Arlo system sends data to the cloud - and it can send you alerts. The wireless/battery camera makes installation easy, but you do need a broadband connection so you can connect the hub to your router (and this needs to be wired rather than wireless). I have this:
I got this lot at the end of last year. It's the old model, but does everything I need. Clearly you don't need three cameras so may be better off with something else.
How about something like a Ring doorbell, which has video and is motion activated? I don't know whether it saves the images, but you might want to look into it in more detail.0 -

No, the footage is stored on Arlo's servers, in the cloud.
If you leave the cameras to do motion activation only, it means they're hardly doing anything, so using up less juice. There's no point in recorded 24/7 if nothing is happening. You can set up for alerts to smartphone/tablet directly, and by e-mail if you want
Video only. Possibly consider a Ring doorbell or similar if you want to talk to callers from your mobile device remotely0 -
We have an excellent Arlo system, however it is only video ....no sound.
I also have an internal Nest cam with sound and video but it costs £80 a year to store and retrieve files, and is more expensive to buy than Arlo. Arlo records in ten second chunks which are free to store and retrieve but get deleted, I think, after 10 days. But 10 days worth is probably a long enough storage time for most uses.:A Goddess :A0 -

That's the default setting, which can be extended via the app. Other attributes such as sensitivity can be modified from defaults.
The footage gets stored in the cloud, but is free to download.0
