Yep - my current one looks somewhat like that and it's double thickness concrete blocks covered with render.

I don't like them personally, ie the fact of having to paint the outside of them at intervals:mad: and worried in case the render between said concrete blocks and the paint ever might need some maintenance work - but when one moves to an area where most houses are done like that = that's how they come and it's difficult to buy a brick one.

So they're perfectly okay per se - just a darn nuisance having to do that repainting every few years and the worry in case the render ever needs attention (as one knows bricks wouldnt need attention - bar them being Victorian houses and possibly said bricks might need repointing or something).

Is there any particular reason why you want to buy an ex council house? All the ones in the links are ex council.

There could be anything under that render. Why not buy a house that isn't ex council in a better area where you can see how it has been built?

I had a girlfriend who lived on that estate in one of those houses. I am pretty sure it was concrete block because the boxing in round the stack pipe was missing and you could see the blocks.

It was not the best part of town, and not the best girlfriend.

They look like houses close to me. The council have just built on them as they are known for not holding onto heat. They added about 6 inches to the walls by building on the outside of the existing homes. It looks odd if someone had bought a semi and the work was done on the council half but not theirs, you can see a massive difference in the walls. I would be asking neighbours what problems they may have had.

    I would assume cost!

    Also just because it's ex-council doesn't mean it's in a bad area.

    How rude.

Because an ex council house is only just within our budget. We can't afford anything more, obviously.

Oh dear, could you elaborate? About the area, not the girlfriend (unless there's something you need to get off your chest haha)

If it is cheaper than non ex council areas you can guarantee that it is a bad area. Price of property is determined by what people will pay. If people don't want to pay much to live in a particular area that is because it is an unpopular area so prices will be low.

I could tell that this was not going to be an expensive area from street view. There are a lot of indications on there if you know what to look for.

    Is the house next door?
If it is it states concrete construction.

It just struck me as a "typical council estate" (sorry) where it was normal for groups of semi feral kids to be roaming the streets at all hours. I sometimes wondered if my car would still be in one piece when I went back to it. That was just my opinion.
