M&S Bank

How can M&S Bank possibly be considered as a suitable switch once you have a look at their service rating on TrustPilot? - see Top Accounts with perks for switching.

You should scroll down to the bottom of the page where MSE make it clear that "we focus on rates not service", as the former is quantifiable whereas the latter is entirely subjective.... If you prefer to focus on reported service not rates then go ahead and pick whichever bank has the best rating on TrustPilot if it makes you feel better!

Seriously? You joined the forum just to post this? Wow.

TrustPilot reviews need to be taken with a large pinch of salt. Often fake reviews are posted by company employees to say how amazing the company is, and many others are posted by those who are aggrieved at something. What you rarely see are the reviews by people who are reasonably satisfied, but not wowed by the company.

M&S offer a good switch incentive, and it is for this reason that they appear in MSE's recommendations. There is no evaluation of the subjective opinion on whether their customer service is good.

That!!!8217;s what made me check out their service rating elsewhere. I had been considering switching from Santander to M&S Bank but every other bank listed by MSE has a service rating - M&S Bank had none!

Well it depends on whether you like a free gift card and option for 5% interest over a year on a monthly saver.........
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

I keep the account for the regular saver and as an account from which I pay "present" cheques to young relatives etc.

There was a programme on BBC5Live last week about how easy it is for firms to manipulate online reviews.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b0rvff

I had a bad experience with Trustpilot a few years ago when I left a bad review after being ripped off by an airport parking company. The dodgy company twice persuaded Trustpilot to remove my review. So trustpilot reviews can definitely be manipulated.

My experience with M&S was that opening an account was a bit of a faff. They like to send you documents that you have to sign and post back to them. But once the account is open their customer service is no better or worse than other banks.

What do you want from your switch?

Which Santander account do you have?

Have you considered opening a second account with Santander and switching that, so that you can evaluate the quality of the service, and in the meantime benefit from the 5% regular saver (on which note, have you explored the regular saver with Santander - 5% if 123/123 Lite, or 3% otherwise)?
