Hastings request

Son ,aged 24, changed his car at the beginning of March and insured with Hastings naming myself and my wife as other drivers. He also claimed 2 yrs NCB from his previous vehicle with no problem

he has now had text, voicemail and email asking for proof of the 2yr NCD ( not a problem) AND copies of the front and back of all our licences. He has emailed them twice and had no response. With so many warnings about identity theft he ( and we) are very reluctant to comply with this. Has anyone else come across this and what was the outcome?
They threatening in their correspondence to cancel his insurance ( at a cost to him )

I suggest you compyu with this by calling the insurance agent and sending a direct email at that point rather than a emial to a general enquiry address which I assume you have got no receipt for.

Or you could be a pain and get his insurance cancelled. In which case I hope you plan to give him the >£1000 annual premium increase he will likely get.

He has complied with the request to proof of his NCB. Our issue is with license request. We are shown on the NCB proof already.

And? It is areasonable request. Of course he might be better going with an insuser who will not make him go through hoops and will not use any excuse to not pay out.

But regardless If you do not comply they will cancel and you should foot the bill being your fault for refusing to comply after you wanted to be additional drivers.

Alternatively he could cancel first and find a suitable company without you as additionalk drivers if you don't want to comply.

They already have your names and addresses.

If you are worried blank out part of the driving licence number.

They have randomly selected your son or their systems have flagged up that his information is possibly wrong and they want to check the information supplied corresponds with the information supplied.

    Many Insurers operate similar checks

Can you find any reliable examples of identity fraud being committed after someone provided copies of driving licences to an insurer?

I'd anticipate the outcome being cancelled insurance. That's not a scenario your son wants to find himself in.

As for not answering emails: I'm someone who much prefers email to phone, but if if emails aren't being answered, I pick up the phone.

It will be a condition of his policy that they can ask for and he must supply documents that will confirm all the details he put down in his application

They are entitled to check out the truthfulness of his application

If you don't want to supply them then maybe come off his policy, but your son has no choice but comply. They need your licence numbers to check for points etc

Thanks all for your input. Having changed insurers umpteen times over the last 40 years this is the first time I have come across this.
You can understand my concerns. We will ring them.

    Well no, not really.

If I get one of those random calls telling me my computer's got a virus and they're from Microsoft and they'll help me sort it out, I'm suspicious, and they get nothing from me. If I get an email from a foreign born millionaire on their deathbed wanting to distribute their estate with my help, I'm suspicious, and they get nothing from me.

But if an insurance company, with whom I have or hope to have a contract, asks for information, I supply it! I may check the request is genuine, but having done that, I supply it!

    Cannot understand any concerns.

Your son will have accepted the policy TS & CS when taking out the policy as already advised.

He accepted them on behalf of his named drivers too!

(Check your own policy to find similar conditions you will have agreed to)
