Minimum wage is good in that it protects people from exploitation but raise it much more and small companies will just lay people off because they can't afford to pay it. I do think more people should take responsibility for themselves though.
I watched a really interesting tv show where a wealthy young person lives with a less well off family for a few days to experience how others live. Think it was called rich kids goes skint. One family made up of 2 parents and 2 kids earned only £750 a month. Difficult it might seem. However the man worked just 3 days a week and the lady didn't work at all! They received another £700 odd in tax credits! That's a prime example of a family choosing to do the minimum. I'm more than happy for my taxes to assist the elderly or those facing tough times, but why should I work hard only to have a chunk of my pay taken off me and given to someone who can't be bothered?0 -

That is because over the same period that prices have increased an average of 67%, the average wage only increased 18%. Heck I know people who haven't had an increase in 11 years and counting. What are they supposed to do with the kids they already have? Shove them back in and ask for a refund?
When you're at the point that even an average full time earner can't cover their "share", I think its time to admit we ****** up and look to fix it rather than bury our heads in the sand because "I'm alright, jack".
No I don't support the state paying for peoples life decisions, but I do completely support fair pay and good working conditions.
Skills change. Pretending that doesn't happen is seriously naive. If you just expect a pay rise without doing anything to prove you deserve it, then what do you expect?
Either adapt and improve your own situation or just whine and expect others to pay for your own choices and laziness.0 -
I am sure if I go into my boss and say I'm having another child so I need a payrise I probably will get a short answer. If when I get the answer of no and the shout about the fact I'm choosing to kill my baby across the media. I suspect my career with that company will be a short one. Just an entitled generation.0

I couldn't name any that only pay NMW for the contracted hours. I do know professionals who work close to double their contracted hours for no pay so might be close in reality. I am talking about young people starting out.0
