Hi all I had a letter yesterday for full payment on my gas account I'm £106 in debt, just to note I pay via direct debit.
When I phoned I said why they wanting full payment and they simply said to get the account up to date. I have never had this before from any supplier.
I refused saying that my direct debit will keep going out so will then go massively into credit and that in the winter you go into debt and the summer into credit and the only reason hey are doing this is so they can get interest off me.
He then said he can put my dd a bit higher to cover and I said fine.
He then asked me how much I paid and I said I don't know without looking on my bank. He then told me I pay £54 and I agreed to pay £65, however when I logged into the bank and my energy account I don't hay £54 I pay £41.
I feel this advisor has mislead me into paying more than I should
Do you agree?
If so what should I do?
Thanks

Nowadays most Utility Cos. look for a zero balance in the Spring, so what Economy Energy are doing ,is not that unusual.
Presumably you know your expected annual usage in kwh? If so, it is not difficult to convert this to ££s for your tariff. Add on your debt of £106 and divide by 12 -does this result in £65 pm ? If less, then phone them back and ask for the DD to be reduced to the value you have calculated.0 -

Unfortunately, I do not agree with you.
Of all the other suppliers you have had, how many took a double payment in the first month?
Please refer to the terms and conditions you agreed to, in particular section 9.4, and even more so, 9.4.c
If you want cheap, something has to change somewhere.
Whatever you pay via direct debit will not affect the amount you are charged for your energy consumption, which will be in line with your agreed tariff.0 -
It used to be that when you entered a contract with energy suppliers that the aim was at the end of the contract the balance owing would be zero either way. Unfortunately, with all the cowboys they have let in, they now want more & more up front. This leaves them owing you a lot of money at the end of the contract that they hope you will forget they owe you & they will stretch out the length of time it takes them to repay you as long as possible. These days this appears to be an acceptable business model.0
