Multiple Credit Checks

Hi all,
My post is regarding a few things. I have recently being looking into money supermarket and the credit club and decided to apply for a first direct current account before the time limit ran out for the £125 cashback. At the same time I applied for a barclays balance transfer card and a Sainsburys purchasing card. This has obviously resulted in several credit checks and also i was declined for my barclays balance transfer card then applied for an m and s balance transfer/ purchasing card. I was only told i didnt match the lending criteria for barclays when i rang them and they said the checks were soft credit checks although now when i check they were hard credit checks.
I already have a mortgage with nationwwide and have applied for a small second mortgage for a second home. I am worried now that this will affect my chance to get the mortgage with nationwide have i been stupid with apllying for so many credit cards and a current account at once? Ive had my mortgage with nationwide for 18 months and have never had any financial problems, i havent even been in my overdraft for over 6 years but i didnt use credit cards for years due to a fraudulent transaction which santander credit cards handled badly. Will nationwide care that i have so many credit checks in such a short space of time considering that is the only stain on my credit score?

  • Also I was given a decision in principle by nationwide and this was after i had applied for all the credit cards.

If you have a dip at a point where they were aware of your other applications, then you should be fine.

General advice is not to apply for any credit in the run up to applying for a mortgage and certainly not to take on any additional debt until the mortgage money has been drawn and the mortgage started.
  • Nationwide wont care about your score. Neither will any other lender.
  • Thank you I won't worry so much now  I just saw how much my clear score went down and thought !!!!!!
  • Ignore it.

The scores react negatively to change - be it a postive or negative change

But they may care that you applied for 3 credit cards in short order.

I don’t think it will affect a mortgage application much, they’re more interested in meeting affordability criteria than anything else.
