  • I'm glad your gonna keep your role. Does either offer more security in terms of the next lot of redundancies? I would also consider having an emergency fund if possible as well so that if the worst happens in future you have something to fall back on

    Very pleased to hear the news - 2 job offers is amazing. It would be good to get rid of debt as no debt seems safer but you have done very well reducing that so far.

    Being a Nan or Gran or whatever is just so much fun!

    Hi mum2nan - I've been logging in to see if there are any updates from you and I'm so pleased to read your news!  What a result - well done you. 👏.  I'm glad I was able to help a bit.  I hope you've had a relaxing weekend and great idea to keep a grip on the finances.
  • Well done @Mum2Nan that is excellent news. It may be worth doing a pro's and con's list for both jobs and see where that leads you. It may help work things out in your mind and I'm sure if you want some help then if you pop it up Blackcats et al will help brainstorm with you.

    Thanks for all the good wishes, it’s been great to have the support.

    @beanielou – that’s certainly the plan now.

    @sarahwithlove – on balance choice 3 may have been marginally more secure than 2 but I don’t think there was much in it.  I do have a small emergency fund, around £1200.  When I first joined this site, it was around £3.7K but I kept dipping into it when I dropped down to a 4 day week.  I really want to build this back up to what it was as a minimum.

    @maggiem – I couldn’t agree more!

    @flipflopflo – love your username!  I did a list of pros and cons and also used the JDs and potential structure to help me decide.

    I went with choice 2 in the end.  This role is the closest to my existing one.  I sent through the e-mail confirmation yesterday morning before I had chance to change my mind and by the afternoon had received a formal letter.   I have now sent it back which means I will no longer be at risk of redundancy at this time.

    @Blackcats – Sunday turned out to be a lovely day.  Caught up with my family, 2 of my work colleagues who are also friends later in the evening and after they had gone home, my BF.   They were both talking about treating themselves as a celebration and I don’t blame them.  I’m going to celebrate by not treating myself, well may be a bottle of wine.

    In the letter mentioned above, it states ‘there is a trial period of 4 weeks.  If at the end of this trial period I decide the role s not for me then I can request redundancy’.  This is a change of tact as this question came up previously during the consultation and the answer was no then.  It doesn’t matter really, I don’t think knowing that before I made my decision would have had much bearing to be honest.

    I’ve booked 4 days off next week seeing as it’s a bank holiday.  It will be heaven not to have the job worry hanging over me.  I am conscious I haven’t even started decorating my living room as I had planned but I don’t think I’ve got the energy to do that next week so I am planning on spending two days looking after DGS instead.  I could also do with spending a day getting things done that I have neglected over the past few weeks so will try and make that happen.

    I can start progressing with my re-mortgage application soon.   That will be a relief as I will see a saving in this area.

    I have now finished work for a week.  I really, really need this break.  I have received another letter from HR today to confirm continuity of employment remains in place.  I am not sure I can cope with a potential repeat next year so I am going to continue carrying on in the hope it won't come to that.
    Mum & Dad put £50 into my account yesterday morning.  I didn't realise until I logged on this morning to check my salary had gone in.  Mum & Dad would never treat us any differently so my brother and sister would have received the same.  When I phoned Dad earlier he said I should have a celebratory drink or meal.  I feel guilty for transferring it to my emergency fund but if they knew the truth they would see it as a sensible decision.
    I am having a lazy day tomorrow.  I am looking after DGS Tuesday and Thursday.

    I love the start of a new month because it means debt reduction day for me.  It’s one of the only days I never seem to have any trouble emerging from my bed super early (especially whilst I am off work) so I can log on and check all payments and overpayments have gone through.  With the exception of the fixed D/D to Halifax MC, monthly management charge and SO to DGS savings account everything has gone out and signature updated.   I have also transferred money to my various pots and my emergency fund.

    Drove over to see my parents on Sunday.   Dad’s arthritis was clearly causing him a lot of discomfort so we all left a little earlier than usual so he could rest and have an early night.

    Had a discussion with BF yesterday about our living arrangements.  He is now staying over 3 or 4 nights rather than 5.  I am worried about losing my SPD with the council tax and for the second week in a row I have paid the food shopping which increased by over £20 on Saturday.  He isn’t mean in the slightest, but he just doesn’t think sometimes.  I came within a whisker of blurting out how much money I still owe but thought better of it.

    The sun has been shining here and it’s warm.  I had DGS from 9 this morning and got home just after 2.  As the weather was so nice we went to the park and then onto the pond to feed the ducks.  I am hoping to take him on a local woodland nature trail on Thursday if the weather holds out as I have him for the whole day.   I will take a flask, drinks and some snacks with us to keep the cost down.  He’s so quick on his feet now that he certainly keeps me on my toes.

    I am about to make a start doing a few jobs I have neglected over the last few weeks, and cleaning out the fish tank is top of my list.  It’s a hassle but very satisfying once it’s done.
