Ending Tenancy - Overlapping HB

Hello.

I viewed a flat on 8th February this year.

They said I could have it.

Housing association called me on Friday 4th of May to tell me they want me to sign a AST on Friday 11th of May to start my tenancy on Monday the 14th of May.

I said I have to give a months notice but they said I should ask for overlapping HB 'for health reasons'. I am on ESA.

How do I go about it?

    Thanks, that's a help.
  • Overlapping HB starts from the day you accept the tenancy and lasts 28 days. You have had to have moved into the property before the overlap starts.

For instance accept tenancy on 1st April 2018.

Move into property 7th April 2018.

Overlap will be paid from 7th April to 28th April on your old property.

If you don't move into your new property until 28th April no overlap will be paid. You will have to have moved out of your old property and the overlap will be paid on your old property.
