help to choose bath taps/filler combined with overflow and waste

Would really appreciate some help as I'm so stuck. I'm currently in the midst of refurbing my bathroom, and I have to decide on bath and taps like yesterday! Had my heart set on a mixer shower running off combi boiler (budget will probably only allow something around the £200 mark from screwfix) and a double ended bath but I'm willing to stretch to a Bette steel bath with a 30 year guarantee.

My bath will be sited pretty much where the last one was; along a solid wall adjoining neighbours property next to a boiler cupboard currently under construction. I'm concerned both about the extra cost and inaccessibility of chasing in pipework to fit the bath taps/filler centrally on the side of the bath next to the wall and would like to source something that will look good in the centre of the bath on the opposite (room) side; which would need to be quite low profile to avoid tripping on the as I climb in and out of the bath.

Seems like a Grohe talentofill or Bristan combined bath fill, overflow and waste would do the trick. Does anyone know of any cheaper brands? Am I right in thinking that I would then need either a diverter valve or to find some deck mounted low profile taps to fit a bath with two central standard tap holes. There's loads of wall mounted ones, but deck mounted seem hard to find.

Help, I'm really stressed and confused. Can't you tell! Am I wanting the impossible? Should I forget my over ambitious plans within a limited budget and just go for a bog standard taps at the end arrangement. Any input would be gratefully received.

  • Hiya,

We are doing the "luxury bathroom on a budget so tight it squeaks" thing at the moment.

After HOURS of research and dead ends, I found two ebay sellers who were able to provide the look I wanted at a good price.

White suite: double ended bath with no tapholes, designery looking toilet and square countertop sink, delivered to the wilds of Scotland for £210. Looks really nice!

I swopped the sink for a square countertop one and got a discount. He doesn't appear to stock this anymore, so no pics I'm afraid.

Taps etc: bath filler, shower head (we are doing the same as you and hiding the pipework) and diverter valve for £70 inc delivery.

Matching sink tap and waste from same place:

When it turned up, to be honest I wasn't expecting much, but was plesantly suprised. You can tell it isn't top quality, but it certainly doesn't look obviously cheap, and once fitted I think you won't be able to tell the difference. I coulnd't afford the £300 min for others I had seen - that's more than my whole bathroom!:rotfl:

    Hope that helps.

Delvery for both was very prompt and excellent comms. Best of all was the price!

Hope that helps! It's not fitted yet, so can't post in-situ pics I'm afraid.

    Best wishes,.

  • Thanks so much for taking the time to reply :T Have bitten the bullet and paid for a bath today, which at least cuts down the number of tap options I have. Thanks for the links, I shall get on and have a good browse now. evning
  • No trouble. I was so chuffed with them when they arrived.

If you need pics of the actual fitting rather than "eBay" style, I'd be happy to post some on here.

Congrats about getting your bath! I'm sure making the decision is the hardest part!

there are a load of options did reply earlier but the post evaporated. most cost effective is single remote valve with a bmf. from memory you should be able to do this for around 200. putting in grohe myself but as you say it is not budget. if you have 2 tap hole bath less options but you should be able to do this for sub 300
