    I am not especially bothered about the smart meter function, in fact if greenstar would change it back to a normal meter I would be perfectly happy.

    @Kitchen Sink - the smart meter is definitely taller than the old meter, hence the pipework prevents the lid from closing properly. It is only a matter of time before a child stands on the meter lid and causes damage to the pipework.

    The box is semi concealed, there is part of it underground. I am told that this type of meter was never meant to be installed semi concealed like this, mainly because they are not waterproof if it fills up with water.

    House Martin - I am making a fuss because I worked hard to buy a house of my own, and I take pride in my belongings, only to have someone come and do a half-!!!! job and leave it looking half finished. If i did that in my job I'd be sacked on the spot.

    I have contacted Green Star, who are (predictably) being awkward about replacing it, eventually agreeing to replace it with a dumb meter but for a cost of £82! I have refused this and escalated it to a complaint, if it isn't resolved I will take it to OFGEM.
