Condensation on walls

Hi,

Anyone got any cost effective solution for condensation on walls?

Hall way is cold (old building), and warm air from the kitchen etc is going through the hallway and forming condensation on the cold walls. Just repainted the whole hall and some of the paint has dried patchy due to the condensation.

Have bought a trickle vent for the front door and a de-humidifier

Thanks

Luke

The trickle vent and de-humidifier will help but ultimately you need to tackle the source. Have you got an extractor in your kitchen? If not, can you fit one? Make sure you use pan lids when cooking as well.

Hi, we have an extractor fan etc.

I have bought a trickle vent for the front door leading to the hallway where the issue is. That will hopefully help with air flow

How old is your extractor fan?

And is it a proper extractor, i.e. does it vent to outside, or is it one of those hoods that just re-circulates the air after filtering it? If it's the latter, it won't do a thing for condensation.

The extractor looks relatively new to me, and it extracts outside.

If you aren't already, covering pans when cooking can make a huge difference.

Are you sure there's not a bigger problem? I've got a cold house with some damp issues but I only get condensation on walls in winter, and only when I'm putting a lot of moisture into the air. I'm talking a couple pans on the hob for half an hour and a steaming bowl of washing up.

Can you be absolutely sure it's condensation causing the paint to dry patchy in the hall? Could there be a possibility the walls themselves have some damp ... Hence the coldness?

What type is it? Manual, humidistat, or trickle with humidistat boost?
