New MOT on purchased car from garage

Hi all,

I've paid for a car from a garage that offered a 12 month MOT which was due to be done yesterday or today as the current expires in less than a month. It was arranged I could go back on Saturday and collect it. Me being nosy as I am have checked online and the MOT they did yesterday failed on 4 things, with some advisories too. Am I correct in thinking they should carry out the repairs necessary for the car to pass it's MOT? And would it be reasonable to expect it could still be collected tomorrow?
Just trying to make up for past mistakes and work towards the future I want :hello:

If they do not sort out the 4 items it failed on then it will not pass on re-inspection, so will not get a new MOT.

Depending on how good the garage is they may sort out the advisories too. Look into the advisories and see how important they will become. What are the likely costs to put these right?

Then if they have not put those right you can go to the garage when you pick up the car and say. This work is around a total of, why have you not done this?

Of course they will? Otherwise it couldnt be sold with a years MOT could it?

Sounds like they've opted to put it in for MOT and see what it needs.

They'll obviously resolve the failure issues and re MOT it. They might address the advisories but they're not obliged to.

Ok thanks sorry if they're obvious questions but this is the second car I've been close to having, except I've actually paid for this one so wanted to double check I wasn't going to be left without a car somehow :)

It would make sense to do the MOT and check it over if I recall I don't think they've had it themselves long. Just hoping I can still collect tomorrow as it's a while away and I've already got the travel plans in place to go and collect :)

    Very normal practice.
Ask them if everything's still set for collection tomorrow. But I suspect they've got it in early on so give them time for the repairs

No probs. Yes, its right to ask the questions, but i dont think its anything to worry about. Dealers usually can get MOT slots very quickly so i'm sure they're on track :)

Just bought a car from a garage, also checked the mot/history as it was being sold with a full years mot.
It had failed on a brake disc, and had advisories on the rear trailing arm bushes.
Went to pick it up, new discs and pads all round, everything bought for the car on a couple of receipts from the local motor factor, including the trailing arm bushes.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, just check again, see if the advisories disappear as well.
