I'm looking for information about extending a home with a roof like this (not the house iself as don't have a photo) - does anyone have knowledge of any sites I could find out info on extending the first floor into the 2nd floor? I've tried a variety of search terms on google but not having any luck. I'm looking for a variety of ideas if possible. https://ibb.co/nBfayn

What information do you want? It's a loft conversion.

I dont think it is though - the ground floor has a bigger footprint than the 1st floor and at the back of the house the roof goes from the top of the first floor rooms to the top of the ground floor rooms - soI'm looking for websites or example of people adding extensions to houses like this - there isn't room within the slope from the 1st to ground floor to pop in a room as the roof is at a 45% angle (ish). So I have one idea where the walls are raised to roof height etc to make proper rooms (this is what my parents did 50 years ago) butI cant find info on it.

Okay, so that's the before picture, not the after?

It's essentially second storey extension. No different to adding a storey to a single storey extension, just the roof is different because it is a catslide roof.

I'll be doing one later in the year. Remove the catslide roof, build up the sides and front and turn the new extension so it's gable fronted. The new ridgeline meets the original ridgeline at a 90 degree angle.

I appreciate it looks like a bit of a grand design, but the principal is here. This is the ugly duckling I get to turn into a swan, the second one is a digital proposal. The ridgeline is designed to be raised on the left side on this one but the original one is still there and the back of the house remains structurally the same. Gains an awful lot of space internally.

Fabulous - yes that's a before pic - never knew it was called a cat slide roof (its quite a cute name really). Many thanks

I am a little amused by the whole situation. OP has not got a simple modern box with truss rafters, or a simple cut roof. A catslide roof, extending walls upwards, matching traditional build, design and materials, getting through current Regulations and such like is all in the realms of professional design and professional building. Yet there is an expectation that all this should be available on the internet. It is not readily available as OP has found but rather than going down the professional route one gets a post on the Forum. Fine by me, but what is anyone expected to answer other than generic comments such as yours?

But a wholly inappropriate transformation to the home shown in your link!

The home in my link isn't mine (it was a stock image) and I wouldn't have this style of transformation to the house I am looking at - mine will be much more rustic (oak framed type thing) but it is the process I was after.

Crikey Doozer that's horrible! But then this old person won't have to live in it or look at it so it doesn't matter what I think!
