Well I'd rather spend an hour and half in Madrid or Lisbon airport having a coffee and something to eat than 2.5 hours shlepping over to Luton or Stansted ;-)0

Most of the time I would agree but if you are a BA frequent flyer then connections via MAD or BCN can be very good for collecting Tier Points.0 -

Last BA short-haul flights we took were last November from LGW to Alicante and back. Both flights were basic, with the trolley service being one trolley only, from front to rear. By the time the trolley got towards the rear it was time to get ready to land.
Cabin staff didn't look very happy either.0
