I'm rather concerned that they haven't got the previous top ups listed. I did get receipts each time but god knows where they are. I've never had a prepayment meter before, I just assumed you stick the key in and use what you've paid for.

Surely you can't get into debt on a prepay meter where the key is in and topped up, it doesn't make any sense, unless the unit amount was set incorrectly.

I'm currently chatting with BG to find out if they had a credit as this wasn't passed over.

Yes SP took over in Jan.

There was some credit on the BG meter yes, not a great deal, less than £20. I was topping up like mad over winter - £80 a month or so, as I had guests using an electric heater. I actually topped up with SP more than £50, that was just one day in March that I put £50 on as the builders were coming and I wanted to make sure I didn't run out whilst on holiday with power tools etc. (£40 max so shop did £10 then £40) What it seems to me is that my previous top ups have not been recorded. In the event the builders hardly used any.

It's odd because there's another electricity account online with a 55p debt, I'll have a look at that. It's been a complete nightmare from start to finish.

You'll need to find evidence of those previous top up's for SP you purchased.
Shop receipts would be great, but otherwise you may be able to prove it another way such as a card payment?

As regards the other bill relating to the 22-23 Jan, best to keep quiet about that one.
It looks like SP have either waived it, or forgotten about it, as the total was not carried forward :money:

    Hello folks,

Moved into new house last Sept, elec meter was a prepayment with British Gas. Switched it to Scottish Power (to be in line with the gas meter) and wanted both changed to credit meters. Gas all OK, now a credit meter.

Elec meter just changed over to a credit from prepay, had a £34.10 credit on it, which they have confirmed, and I'm being asked to pay £11 now - but I don't get how it can be owing. They only took it over a couple of months ago from BGas.

There was no debt with BGas and it's been topped up regularly during cold weather, used emergency once.

HELP! Could it be the unit rate set on the meter was wrong?

They don't seem to be able to answer this and many many emails and being on hold for hours is driving me mad. I'm going to switch the whole lot to another provider as soon as this is resolved.
    Hi tightasagnats

Sorry for the issues you have had with the final prepayment bill. If you can send me over the details below I can run a quick investigation into the balance on the account from the prepayment meter. It is possible some payments may be with your old supplier, like any money you had on the meter already when the supply changed. If this is the case you may be due a refund from them. However I can look into further when I receive you details.

If you could possibly email me at Social@scottishpower.com with the following information,
your MSE handle in the subject heading
    your full address
    your name and telephone number
and some details of the issues you have encountered
I can look into this for you.

    Kind Regards
    Danielle

Thank you, I have now emailed you full details. It seems that the issue (for anyone following) was credit left on the meter at the point SP took over from BG (prepayment to prepayment meter) and that SP are saying BG should have refunded that to me and BG are saying "you should have just used up the remaining credit" which is what I did.

Then meter was changed to credit meter with SP and the issue became apparent as the final bill was generated and showed a debt.
  • Just by way of a last update, it all has finally been sorted and untangled. BG refunded me £40 and SP refunded the £11 and after many many hours it's hopefully all behind me and I've switched companies. Thanks for everyone who chipped in to try and help.

So now you owe SP £22.74?

But you have the £40 from BG to pay that, so you can get that sorted :money:
