Mondeo Cruise Control/Speed Limiter

I have had, for a couple of years, an aggravation in that sometimes pressing the cruise control/speed limit button does not work immediately and now it sometimes takes multiple presses with increasing force and anger - of course it doesn't make it react quicker but I feel better. I have had it "looked at" a couple of times during normal service but they "can't find nothing wrong."

Yesterday I had car in again for service and insisted they investigate. When collecting car they said they didn't want to take apart the switch cluster as they "didn't know how it worked." As they are mainly a servicing garage I let them off, especially when they said they had received a fault code! First time that has ever come up. Code is C2003-49 steering wheel switch left module. Has anyone come across this and how did you solve it? Presumably fitting a replacement module.

Is the cruise control switch on the left hand side of the steering wheel by any chance?

Mine does this and other tricks such as you turn it on, use the set + to set the speed but then if you hit the set - button it turns it off. It's the switches on the steering wheel and you can get the switches separately from the steering wheel. Depending on how mechanically competent you are you can swap them yourself. You need to remove the steering column shroud and remove the airbag (2 different types depending on the age of your car) then you can swap the switches out.

Its funny how the weather affects it. Damp and cold and its a pain in the arris, warm day, works just fine and dandy.

Yes it is, hence the fault code C2003-49 steering wheel switch left module.

Yep, had the tricks as well, just assumed it was all part of the general fault. I used to be an engineer but I'm cured now and would have considered changing the switches myself if it weren't for the proximity of the air bag!

Airbags are not a worry, ive had them dangling by their wires while replacing a heater motor.

As long as you dont apply power to it your safe.

If it's anything like switches on the Golf then it can be caused by dirt and dust buildup in the switch contacts. I've used compressed air & electrical contact cleaner sprayed in before to successfully fix it
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

     2018...groundhog day?

The garage read the code not the OP.  You do not say what car you have...

As a basic guess its a Ford try the Forscan software/app with an appropriate OBD adapter.

Which one will depend on what car you have.
